قيل "الحياة مِعزًف ذو سبعة أوتار، ستة منها للألم وسابع للسرور" أما إذا قدر لحياة أن تكون كل أوتارها للألم، فهي حياة غريبة، وصاحبها بين الناس غريب. ولعل هذه الغربة هي ما أغوت الباحث على درس أعمى المعرة، أحمد بن عبد الله بن سليمان، فلهذا الأعمى شخصية متعددة النواحي، غنية المظاهر، فالقارئ لكتبه والباحث فيها يمكنه أن يدرس مهارته اللغوية وتعمده التكلف والغريب، أو أن يدقق في الملاحظة فيرى ما في "رسالة الغفران" من سخرية وكفر، أو أن يطالع ديوان "الدرعيات" وهمه أن يرى حظه في وصف الدروع، أو تذوق فنونه الشعرية في "سقط الزند"، ويقف طويلاً في تذوق رثائه لأبي حمزه.
إنما كل هذا لن يطالعه إلا إلى حدّ على خفايا هذه النفس، وآلام هذا القلب، ولن يظفر بسرّ هذه الحياة بما فيها من شعور وتفكير إلا إذا درس (اللزوميات) التي هي أهم آثار ابي العلاء، وأصدقها تصويراً له، هي بعد فن جديد في الفكر العربي، فن الشعر الفلسفي. على أن هذه الفلسفة لم تقصد لذاتها في دراسات الفقهاء، ولم تدرس بتفصيل في الموضوعات لذلك عنى الباحث "يوحنا قمير" بوضع هذه الدراسة التي يدوّن فيها أولاً تاريخ حياة ومرآة عصر أبو العلاء كما يحلل فيه اللزوميات، ككتاب فلسفي عادي مبيناً ما بين اللزوميات والحياة من صلة، مؤيداً آراءه بنصوص مختارة تساعد القارئ على فهم هذا الدرس، وتمكن عامة المفكرين من الاطلاع على زبدة كتاب، لا يزال محصوراً على بعض الخاصّة.
