الإدريسي (493 - 560 هـ = 1100 - 1165 م)
محمد بن محمد بن عبد الله بن إدريس الإدريسي الحسني الطالبي، أبو عبد الله: مؤرخ، من أكابر العلماء بالجغرافية.
من أدارسة المغرب الأقصى.
ولد في سبتة ونشأ وتعلم بقرطبة.
ورحل رحلة طويلة انتهى بها إلى صقلية، فنزل على صاحبها روجار الثاني Roger II ووضع له كتابا سماه (نزهة المشتاق في اختراق الآفاق - خ) [ثم طُبع] أكمله سنة 548 هـ، وهو أصح كتاب ألفه العرب في وصف بلاد أوربة وإيطالية، وكل من كتب عن الغرب من علماء العرب أخذ عنه.
وقد ترجم إلى الفرنسية ترجمة كثيرة الخطأ (كما يقول سيبولد، في دائرة المعارف الإسلامية) وترجم إلى اللاتينية والإنكليزية والألمانية، وطبعت منه بالعربية خلاصات.
وللإدريسي أيضا (الجامع لصفات أشتات النبات - خ) استفاد منه ابن البيطار، و (روض الأنس ونزهة النفس) ويعرف بالممالك والمسالك، بقي منه مختصر في مكتبة حكيم أوغلو علي باشا في الآستانة، و (أنس المهج وروض الفرج).
قال الصفدي: كان أديبا ظريفا شاعرا (مغرى بعلم جغرافيا) وللمهندس البغدادي المعاصر أحمد سوسة (الشريف الإدريسي في الجغرافية العربية - ط) ويرجح أن وفاته في سبتة .
