كتبت هذه المذكرات يوم كانت سلمى الحفار الكزبري في سن السابعة عشرة وتضمنت المذكرات صوراً عن الحياة الاجتماعية في دمشق، وتصويراً لمشاعر وآراء فتاة نشأة في بيئة عربية محافظة، وثارت على بعض التقاليد الموروثة، منتحلة في مذكراتها هذه اسم "هالة" كناية عن نفسها، وتجنباً للحديث المباشر عنها لأن "الأنا" مكروهة، كما وصفت في تلك المذكرات تقاليد تلك الفترة الزمنية والأعراس التي كان الاحتفال بها آنذاك، مقتصراً على النساء فقط.
وفي القسم الثاني من مذكراتها والمعنونة "بين الحق والباطل" سجلت فيها حادثة سياسية كان لها ضجة كبيرة في الأوساط السورية واللبنانية إبان الانتداب الفرنسي عليهما، وقد كان والدها لطفي الحفار، ومسعد الله بك الجابري، وجميل مردم بك من رجال الكتلة الوطنية الذين حيكت ضدهم مؤامرة باتهامهم بمقتل الدكتور عبد الرحمن الشهبندر، ولكنهم خرجوا من تلك المحنة ناصعي الجباه بعد أن أصدر المجلس العدلي الذي ألف لمحاكمة المتهمين بتلك الجريمة المنكرة، قراراً ببراءتهم. ويجب التنويه بأن الكاتبة حازت على جائزة الملك فيصل العالمية في الأدب العربي لعام 1995.
