لا نظن أن شعور الإنسان الداخلي بالارتباط بينه وبين الماضي من جهة، وبينه وبين المستقبل من جهة ثانية كان عن عبث، وإنما تصور ذلك عن حكمة إلهية جعلت لهذا الارتباط دوراً في تكوين شخصية الإنسان وارتباط هذه الشخصية بالمحيط، والإفادة من الماضي الذي يدخل مختزنه في أساس تكوين شخصية الإنسان، ليساهم هذا المختزن في بناء المستقبل.
وطبيعي أن يكون هذا الارتباط بالماضي أكبر من الارتباط بالمستقبل ذلك أن الماضي يدخل ضمن نطاق الواقع الذي عشناه أو سمعناه أو سمعنا عنه، أو شاهدناه... فصار أقرب إلى نفوسنا، وجزءاً من ذاتنا، وثقافتنا ومفاهيمنا وانفعالاتنا... في حين أن المستقبل لا يزال نوعاً من وهم أو سراب. من هنا كان تعلقنا بالماضي والتراث.
وهذا الكتاب على مصطبة جدتي -ركن من أركان التراث في مدلولاته لا في الكم، ويصور حالة القوم في همومهم ومتاعبهم، وهواجسهم وأحلامهم، وعاداتهم وتقاليدهم وأساليب عيشهم.
وليس أجمل ولا أصدق تصويراًً من ذاكرة طفل، يقعد مع النساء فيستمع إلى أحاديثهن تدور حول موضوعات شتى، فتعيش في ذاكرته هواجس وهموماً ومفاهيم... حتى إذا نضج ونضجت هذه المفاهيم في ذهنه، أسبغ عليها من عنده شيئاً من الزخرف، وحاكها أثواباً متنوعة، يلبسها لأشخاص يخترعهم أو يعرفهم ولكنه يبدع في تصويرهم كنا يفعل الرسام، ويخطط، ويلون، ويزركش حتى تكون الصورة الكاملة المرتسمة في ذهنه واقعاً بمثل ما عنده من أحاسيس ومشاعر، ويريد للناس أن يشاركوه فيها، فيحيا الماضي في الحاضر، وتكون شخصيات الماضي صوراً حية يغتني بها الفن والأدب، وتعود معها الحياة إلى الوراء في لحظات يسعد بها بعض الناس.
