وقد تطورت النظم والنظريات والمدارس المالية التي تعالج أسس ومنطلقات الفكر الإستثماري حتى أصبحت العملية الإستثمارية تحتاج إلى دراسة وتحليل وتنبؤ لمعطيات الإستثمار قبل الإقدام عليها وأصبح الفكر الإستثماري من إهتمامات المؤسسات الأكاديمية والبحثية ومناط إهتمام القوانين الدولية خصوصاً في ظل الإنفجار العلمي والتكنولوجي في العقود الأخيرة.
