عند الفجر أفرغت الطائرات القادمة من قواعدها في الخليج العربي الدافئ الوجبة الأولى من حمولتها الثقيلة الساخنة على أرض العراق. زحفت الجيوش من كل صوب وركضت المجنزرات محملة خوذات حديدية وأعمدة بفوهات تقذف نيراناً. يحترق النخيل وتتهاوى البيوت وتفزع الطيور، تستيقظ بغداد على قيامة حلت عليها. الطائرات تسبق المجنزرات لتمشط الأجواء وتزيل الشكوك. جنود يتحدثون بميكروفونات مثبتة على خوذاتهم، يعطون الإشارات ويتلقون التعليمات ويقصفون.. أناس يموتون.. لا تكترث أيها العسكري فليس ثمة قانون يحاسبك. هذه قوانين الحرب اقتل قبل أن تقتل. لا صوت في السماء سوى صوت الطائرات والمجنزرات على الطرقات وصوت المذيعين في الراديو والتلفاز يزدحم في الأثير.
من شرفتها تتخيل الطائرات الضخمة تأتي من الأفق البعيد وتدخل إلى (الدِش) عبر الأسلاك، أسراب أخرى منها تحلق عبر باب الشرفة المفتوح إلى داخل شقتها وتتحول الى طائرات صغيرة مثل طائرات الدمى ولكن الأصوات المنطلقة من التلفاز تمنحها قوة الدمار. تشاهد الناس الذين يصرخون والأطفال الذين يهربون يخرجون من عيون (الدِش) الثلاثة المثبتة في باطنه المقعر ثم يذهبون نحو السماء يطيرون مثل الأحلام. بعضهم لا يقوى على الطيران وعندما يحاول التحليق يسقط على سطحه الأملس الصقيل، وما يلبث، بعد محاولات يائسة للوقوف والانطلاق مرة أخرى، أن يتهاوى من الطابق الثامن.
