"كانت أكلة السمك المسكوف من المناسبات اللذيذة في أيام الخير في بغداد، ولا سيما عندما تجري ليلاً بعد سفرة نهرية بالبلم إلى إحدى الجزرات الرحلية الممتدة على نهر دجلة، يوم كان هناك جزرات وماء في نهر دجلة. هذا النهر الخالد أصبح شطيطة في هذه الأيام. اعتاد سكان الأعظمية بصورة خاصة على الاستمتاع صيفاً بهذه الأكلة يستأجرون بلماً ويأخذون معهم (سمكة الشبوط أو النبي)، وبالجة حطب، وركية، ركيتين، وشيشة عنبة، وكم طماطاية مع ما يلزم من مشروبات وثلج...
كان من شخصيات تلك الأيام المرحوم شعيب إبراهيم المعروف محلياً بشعوبي. كان متيحاً بحب نهر دجلة وولائم المسكوف على ضفافه. وعندما سمع بزواج صديقه المعلم عبد الله الحموش، أصر على أن يقيم له وليمة ساهرة لمن يتزوج منهم في ليلة عرسه، ليلة الدخلة، يزفونه منها مشيعاً بالغناء، والصفكة والمداعبات. رتبت شعوبي كل ذلك واتفق مع داود السماح أن يأتيهم بسمجة شبوط ممتازة من صيده في تلك الليلة...".
