«إسطنبول إسطنبول» مجموعة قصص تجمعها رواية واحدة، وتدور حول طالب اعتقل وهو في طريقه لاجتماع سري، وحلاق تركته زوجته لأنه عقيم، وطبيب انتحل شخصية ابنة المريض لينقذه من السجن، ورجل كهل قبض عليه لجرم لا يعرف ما هو، وغيرهم من الشخصيات، القاسم المشترك بين هذه الشخصيات هو السجن والمعاناة.
لم تجد شخصيات هذه الرواية خلاصاً لها إلا في عالم متخيل يهربون إليه من واقعهم المرير؛ فيكافحون الجوع بتخيل موائد عامرة. ويجابهون العزلة بالتجوال في أراضٍ شاسعة وهم لا يبرحون أماكنهم، ويروون بين عذاب وعذاب حكايا، ويطرحون أحاجي، ويلقون قصائد ليخففوا عن أنفسهم الألم وليشحنوا أنفسهم بالطاقة استعداداً لألم قادم لا محالة إن لم يكن اليوم فغداً، أو بعد غدٍ.
تجمع هذه الرواية ذكريات يتداخل فيها الواقع بالخيال، وتدمغها المواقف الإنسانية حتى مع الجلاد نفسه الذي يعاني من وطأة التعذيب الذي يطبقه على سجنائه.
