قطعت الرواية الأفريقية شوطاً طويلاً من المعاناة واختلاف الآراء، والتفاوت في مستوى الوعي الفني والاجتماعي، وهذه كلها مؤشرات عملية تراكمية في مستقبل الرواية الأفريقية المعاصرة. "وصنبين عثمان" هو نموذج من هؤلاء الروائيين الذين حفل الأدب العالمي برواياتهم الهادفة وقد ألهمته تجربته الروائية دفعاً نحو السينما مخرجاً فيها عدة أفلام من بينها فيلم (الحوالة) المعتمد على رواية له بهذا الاسم، وروايته هذه بالغة الدقة والأهمية، وهي ذات بناء يذكرّ المرء بمهارة تشيخوف ومساحات مارك توين في آن، تبدأ (الحوالة) بداية بسيطة ففي إحدى قرى السنغال التي يفترسها الجوع وتتأكلها البطالة، يصل ساعي البريد حاملاً إشعاراً بـ(حوالة) مالية مقدارها 25 أف فرنك، مرسلة من فرنسا إلى "إبراهيم دينح"، الذي أرسل الحوالة هو ابن أخت إبراهيم الذي يعمل في فرنسا، وهو يرجو من خاله تسليم الحوالة والاحتفاظ بأكثرها ريثما يعود من المهجر كي يتزوج، ومن هنا تبدأ الرواية لتصبح أحداثها أقرب إلى الشريط الروائي منها إلى الرواية. إنها تروي سيرة مجتمع أفريقي يعاني الفقر والجوع من جهة والجهل والاستقلال من جهة أخرى.
