"ابن الأنباري" هو أحد أئمة النحو في القرن السادس الهجري (الثاني عشر الميلادي؛ وهناك أسباب حملت الكاتب على إختيار الأنباري كموضوع لكتابه وهي: أنَّ مؤلفات إبن الأنباري النحويّة هي كالمصبِّ العظيم الذي تلتقي فيه شتّى الروافدّ، لما تشتملُ عليه من آراءٍ وأفكارٍ تُمثِّل مختلف الإتجاهات والمدارسِ النحويّة التي كانت سائدة في عصره؛ وانها تعكس كذلك مختلف التيارات الفكرية التي تعرَّض لها النحو وتأثر بها في تلك الفترةِ كالفقه والمنطقِ والفلسفة، وكان لثقافةِ ابن الأنباري أثرٌ كبيرٌ في ذلك؛ كما أنها تعتبرُ مصادر هامة للدراسة النحوية لما تمتاز به من نسبة الرأي إلى صاحبه، والحرص على إثبات مواقف مشاهير النحاة من المسألة الواحدة.
أما خصائص هذه الدراسة فتتلخص في أنّها تقدِّمُ صورةً وافيةً عن حياة "ابن الأنباري" فتصفُ عصرّه وبيئته وتعدّدُ آثاره ومصنفاته، وتزن جهوده في النحو ومساهماته وتحدّدُ ميوله فيه وإتجاهاته، كذلك تتعرض لتجربةٍ نحويٍّ كبير، فتَستطلع آفاقَها وتستقصي أبعادَها وتستجمعُ خلاصَتها وتحدِّدُ مناحيَ القوةِ والضُعفِ فيها؛ كما أنها تنَفذُ إلى النحو في منابعه وتتعقبه في جذوره ومنابته فتسلطُ الأضواء - من خلال تجربة "ابن الأنباري" - على التيارات التي أثرت فيه والعلوم التي تركت ميسمَها عليه كالفقهِ والفلسفةِ والمنطقِ.
