يحتوي هذا الكتاب الموجه للآباء والأمهات ولجميع المهتمين بموضوع الأطفال على الكثير من الموضوعات الفنية بالمعلومات الحديثة والعناوين التي تهم الكثيرين. وفيه يسلط المؤلف الضوء على بعض أمراض الأطفال الطارئة، والمزمنة وطرق الوقاية منها، بدأ المؤلف كتابه بموضوع شائك ولكنه حيوي جداً وهو "حق الطفل في أن يولد سليماً" فبين كيف يمكن أن يتم ذلك ابتداء من اختيار الزوجة المناسبة وانتهاء بوضع الطفل، ثم انتقل إلى موضوع آخر يشكل جزءاً كبيراً من اهتمام السلطات الصحية وهو موضوع الإرضاع الطبيعي... وبعدئذ تكلم المؤلف على أكثر المشكلات شيوعاً عند حديثي الولادة والأطفال مثل الخواج (الولادة قبل النضج) واليرقان وفقر الدم والحساسية والربو والحمى وفقدان الشهية والافتلاج الحراري والصرع والإسهال وعيوب الكلام، وما إلى ذلك من موضوعات في طب الأطفال، فبين نقاطاً نظرية وعملية هامة جداً، ثم تحدث عن بعض الأمراض قليلة المشاهدة لكنها عظيمة الأهمية في حياة الأطفال مثل الداء الكيسي الليفى والداء الزلاقي، والإمساك والصرع... وكل ذلك بلغة مبسطة وواضحة.
الأطفال هم بسمة الحياة وأمل المستقبل، وفلذات أكبادنا التي تمشي على الأرض... ولا يخفى الجهد الكبير الذي يبذله الأهلون في سبيل تنشئتهم، والعناية بهم... وهم أصحاء يتمتعون بالعافية، ويرفلون بثياب النعيم... فما بالك حينما يعانون من عاهة، أو مرض مزمن؟ إن للأمراض المزمنة آثارها النفسية، والاجتماعية، والمادية... ومنها ما ينوء معظم الناس عن حمل تكاليفها، وتقبل العيش معها. يلقي هذا الكتاب الضوء على بعض أمراض الأطفال الطارئة، والمزمنة وطرق الوقاية منها، بطريقة علمية ميسرة ما أمكن تتيح للآباء والأمهات الاستفادة منها، كما أنه مرجع لا يستغنى عنه.
