في مجموعتها الشعرية هذه، تنحو الشاعرة زينب عساف إلى خلق نص كثيف من حيث البلاغة، ومتشح بالرمزية، وغموض الفكرة، والابتعاد عن المستهلك من الألفاظ والمعاني، والاعتناء بالغاية الجمالية للنص، ثم البناء الذهني المتصاعد الوعي، فالنص هنا غالباً ما يأتي مستحضراً من مناطق وعرة في لاوعي الشاعرة، مشرباً بحس فني عميق، مُحدَّث الصيغة، وقد رُصفت عناصره وتراكيبه ودلالالته بحرفية خاصة، رسمتها ريشة شاعرة.
تحت عنوان "ريشة" نقرأ للشاعرة زينب عساف: "اللون قياسيٌّ لدرجة الكثافة، اللون قماشة العين المتنقلة، اللون حمَّال ألم لا يُقال، أن ترسم امرأة يعني أن تشتم وتصرخ وتسبح وترقص، أن تنتَهِك وتُؤلم وتشطح وتغوص، لكنها لن ترسم إلا نفسها، وما بذلته من ألوان باذخة على الحياة المتعجرفة". بهذه اللغة الماتعة، تصل الشاعرة إلى أقصى حدود الصوغ الشعري الحداثي وفي تراكيب تمزج بين الجامد والحي، والواقعي بالمتخيل، وكل ذلك تمظهر بقصائد انسلت عبر سبكٍ صنعوي مائز.
تضم المجموعة "فراشة ميّتة بعد إطباق كتاب عليها"، "ثمانية وعشرون قصيدة نثرية جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "بياضٌ كان قصيدة"، "جالسة قرب اللغة أتنحنح"، "قصيدة جافة"، "عند باب المتجر"، "امرأة عائدة من سهرة"، "ريشة"، "بورتريه امرأة عادية"، "رسائل إيمّا"، (...) وعناوين أخرى.
