يحدد الزمن طبيعة الرواية، مثلما يحدد شكلها الفني إلى حدّ بعيد، ولأن زمن الرواية في "فتوى ... في بيت إبراهيم" هو العام 1908، ومكانها هو جبل عامل / لبنان فإن ترتيب السارد للحوادث داخلها جاء ملائماً للسرد، ويكشف عما بين تلك الحوادث من تواقتٍ، وتزامنٍ، ووقائع تاريخية، تبدو كافية لتحويل أنظار القارىء من زمن الحاضر إلى زمن تاريخي يرتبط بحوادث لها وجودها، وأشخاص حقيقيين من الزمن الماضي، لا يزالون حاضرون في ذاكرة الروائي "عباس جعفر الحسيني" وها هو يعود بنا وبهم في قالب روائي، يسير فيه الماضي والحاضر جنباً إلى جنب، ولكنه يقفز ببطله: "نبيل"عبر الزمان والمكان والذي وسمه بموهبة وذكاءخارقين، حيث أن الفتى كان يقوم بأبحاث شفوية حول جزء من تاريخ علماء عائلته وأثرها في جبل عامل، من منتصف القرن التاسع عشر حتى منتصف القرن العشرين، ولهذا كان يمضي وقته مع والدته "حياة" يناقشها يشرح لها وجهة نظره ويحللان الأمور معاً.
أحداث مشوقة، ومشاهد مفاجئة، تنتظرنا عن علماء أموات قاموا، أخذوا بطل الرواية من يديه، عابرين الزمن، في رحلة يكشف من خلالها الروائي عن تاريخ حافل بالعلم والعمل، لعلماء جبل عامل وقيمهم الروحية ودورهم في بناء الوطن فيحضر في الرواية السيد محمد إبراهيم، والعلامة السيد حسن إبراهيم، والعلامة السيد مهدي إبراهيم، والشيخ أحمد زبيب، ورضا الصلح ... وآخرون. وما علينا نحن القراء إلا أن نستمتع بجمع خيوط الحكاية بذكرياتها والوقائع، نذهب مع مؤلفها في رحلة روائية عميقة وممتعة ...
