إن المصنف في كتابه المسمى بالمنظومة وشرح المنظومة ، تعرض لقسمين ، فقسم مختص بالمنطق ، وقسم مختص بالفلسفة ، والقسمان منفصلان . وقسم المنطق سماه بـ " اللآلئ المنتظمة " . وهذا القسم المختص بالفلسفة سماه بـ " غرر الفوائد " . والذي عليه الحال فعلاً هو أن كلا الإسمين هجرا ، وعُرف كلا القسمين بإسم المنظومة : منظومة المنطق ومنظومة الفلسفة . وأراد المصنف في منظومة الفلسفة أن يُذكر بشكل مختصر دورة في الحكمة العملية والحكمة النظرية - طبعاً دورة غير كاملة بل ناقصة في الحكمة العملية والحكمة النظرية - أي أراد أن يذكر بشكل مختصر جميع أقسام الحكمة . وإنما قلنا دورة ناقصة فلأتهم - وحسب التقسيم المعروف عند القدماء وهو التقسيم الأرسطي - قسموا الحكمة والفلسفة إلى فلسفة نظرية ؛ أي العلم فيما هو موجود ، وفلسفة عملية ؛ أي العلم فيما ينبغي فعله . ثم قسموا الفلسفة النظرية إلى الإلهيات والطبيعيات والرياضيات ، وقسموا الفلسفة العلمية أيضاً إلى الأخلاق وتدبير المنازل ( أو السياسة العائلية ) وسياسة المدن ( هو المعنى المعروف للسياسة ) . لكن المصنف في كتابه هذا ذكر بعض الأقسام وترك بعضاً آخر منها . تعرض للإلهيات وذكرها بشكل أكثر تفصيلاً من غيرها . تحدث في الطبيعيات أيضاً لكن بإيجاز أكثر من الإلهيات ، ولم يتحدث بشيء عن الرياضيات . ومن أقسام الفلسفة العملية الثلاثة تحدث فقط عن الأخلاق في آخر الكتاب . فمن وجهة نظر المصنف يشتمل هذا الكتاب - غرر الفوائد - على عدة علوم وعدة فنون . ففي رأي الحكماء الإسلاميين يعتبر العلم الإلهي بنفسه علماً ، وقد ذكره المصنف ، وعلم معرفة النبات وقد ذكره المصنف أيضاً بشكل مختصر جداً ، وكل من علم الحيوان وعلم النفس علمان . كل هذه العلوم ذكرها المصنف بشكل مختصر في آخر المطلب . لكن القسم الذي فصّل فيه أكثر من سائر الأقسام هو ما يسمونه بالحكمة الإلهية .
