إن كان المؤلف هذا، نوعاً من سرد لقصة حياة "جان فانييه": طفولته، علاقته بأبيه، تعلمه، اختياره للمهنة التي رغب، عمله في "السفينة" التي أنشأ، وعطائه المستمر، فقد جاء مدرسة تعلّم الإيمان، وتبين تأثيره على الحياة اليومية، وارتباطه بالعاطفة الإنسانية وبالعمل الفعال.. لقد قدّم لنا من جهة ثانية الأمثلة الكثيرة التي عاشها، وراح يستشهد بآيات من الإنجيل المقدس، وبأقوال مأثورة للسيد المسيح، وبآراء لكتاب مشهورين ولعظماء الفلاسفة، جعلهم جميعاً قدوة له.
