ويرتبط علم الكيمياء الحيوية إرتباطاً وثيقاً بكثير من العلوم الطبيعية، إذ تعتمد عليه كثير من العلوم الطبية كعلم وظائف الأعضاء والأدوية والتغذية في حالات الصحة والمرض، وكذلك الحال في العلوم الزراعية، ودراسة هذا المقرر تساعدك كثيراً على فهم الظواهر الحيوية في جسمك وأجسام الكائنات الحية الأخرى.
الأهداف العامة للمقرر: أ-الجانب النظري: ينتظر منك أيها الدارس بعد الإنتهاء من دراسة الجانب النظري من هذا المقرر أن تصبح قادراً على أن: 1-تميز السكريات المختلفة وتصف تركيبها وتحدد وظائفها، 2-تتعرف الشحميات من حيث: بنيتها التركيبية وخواصها، 3-تستوعب الأحماض الأمينية: تركيبها، وأنواعها، وتفاعلاتها، 4-تفهم تصنيف البروتينات وتركيباتها البنائية والفراغية، 5-تدرك الخواص العامة للأنزيمات والعوامل المؤثرة في عملها، 6-تتعرف الفيتامينات من حيث: أهميتها، وأنواعها، وتركيبها، 7-تعي مختلف المراحل والتفاعلات في عملية الإستقلاب، 8-تلم بكيمياء الأحماض النووية.
المكونات الجزيئية للبروتينات ووظائفها الحيوية بما في ذلك ترتيب الاحماض الامينية في البروتينات والانزيمات وخصائصها وكيمياء السكريات والدهون ومرافقات الانزيمات.
