تعد مادة الكيمياء الحيوية مادة وثيقة الصلة مع العلوم البيولوجية والعلوم الكيميائية، وهو العلم الذي يدرس التركيب الكيفي والكمي للمركبات الداخلة في بنية العضوية الحية وهذا الرابط الأساسي هو ما أبرز أهمية الحديث عن العناصر المكونة لبناء الجسم والذي تعد مصدرا أساسيا للطاقة، وتناول هذا الكتاب كيمياء الكربوهيدرات من حيث المفهوم والأهمية، كما تطرق إلى تصنيفها تبعا لنواتج تحللها فصنفها إلى: سكا كر أحادية( بسيطة)، وسكا كر قليلة التعدد، وسكا كر متعددة، أيضا من الموضوعات التي يتناولها الكتاب كيمياء الدهون، حيث يعرف الدهون، ويذكر وظائفها وتصنيفها إلى: دهون بسيطة، ومركبة، ومشتقة. وقد عرف كل نوع من هذه أنواع، وتناول كذلك خصائص الكيميائية. أيضا عرج إلى عنصر أخر وهو الأحماض الأمينية والببتيدات والبر وتينات حيث بين صيغتها العامة، وتقسيماتها إلى مجموعات كما ناقش النيوكليوتيدات والهيكل البنائي للأحماض الأمينية فعرف الأحماض الأمينية ، كما ذكر مكوناتها كما انتقل للحديث عن الإنزيمات حيث وضح مفهوم الأنزيم، كما ذكر تركيبها الكيميائي، ثم تطرق للخواص العامة لها، كما ناقش عنصرا أخر وهو الفيتامينات،فوضح مفهومها، ثم ذكر تصنيفها من حيث نوع المذيب وأنتقل إلى عنصر أخر وهو الهرمونات، فعرف الهرمونات، كما تناول تصنيفها من حيث التركيب والوظيفة، ثم تطرق إلى آلية عمل الهرمون، ودرس وظائف هرمونات الغدد كما تحدث عن الشروط الضرورية للقيام بسحب الدم من أين يسحب.
