"أقرب الموارد في فصح العربية والشوارد" معجم جمع بين طياته مادة لغوية منتقاة من بدائع مصنفات أئمة اللغة العربية الثقات، واللغويين القدماء من مثل ابن منظور، صاحب لسان العرب، والزمخشري مصباح البلاغة والأدب. والجوهري مؤلف الصحاح والراغب الأصفهاني صاحب المفردات، والطرزي منشىء المغرب البديع الآيات والزبيدي صاحب التاج، والمجد صاحب القاموس البديع المنهاج، وابن فارس مؤلف المجمل، والرازي منتقى المختار الأفضل.
وقد قسمه المؤلف إلى قسمين الأول في مفردات اللغة الصرفة، والثاني في المصطلحات العلمية والكَلِم المولَّد والأعلام. كما أنه سعى إلى المحافظة على عبارات الأقدمين، مع الوقوف عند كلام الفحول الأقدمين وثقات المؤلفين لرحابة فهمهم لمعاني كلام العرب، بالإضافة إلى ذلك عمد المؤلف في معجمه هذا إلى ضم ذيلٍ يتضمن ثلاثة أمور. الأول ذكر ما كان قد تركه عمداً في أوائل المعجم، أو ربما فاته سهواً في سائر الأبواب. والثاني ذكر ما استدركه على اللسان والتاج مما أخذه من كتب اللغويين. والثالث ذكر ما وقع مؤلفه من الخطأ وذلك بعد فراغه من مراجعته ومعارضته ثانية بالأمهات الصحيحة. وتجدر الإشارة إلى أن واضع هذا المعجم هو واحدٌ من أعلام اللغة العربية في القرن التاسع عشر وأوائل القرن العشرين، أديباً ومربياً، وباحثاً مدققاً، وناقداً لغوياً. قضى حياته بين الدرس والتدريس والكتابة وترك مجموعة من المؤلفات والأبحاث تشهد له بمكانته اللغوية والنقدية وبأسلوبه الذي يجمع السلاسة والإحكام، ترك مؤلفان من أهمهم معجمه "أقرب الموارد" الذي بين يدي القارئ.
