للغة العربية مكانتها المميزة في العالم، إذ يترسلها حوالى 60 مليون نسمة، لذا نجد الإقبال على تعلمها من التلامذة الأجانب في تزايد مستمر، وخصوصاً مع عودة المغتربين اللبنانيين الأصل إلى لبنان. ويأتي هذا الكتاب كحصيلة تجربة المؤلفة في ميدان تعليم اللغة العربية للتلامذة الأجانب.
ويأتي هذا الكتاب ضمن سلسلة لتعليم اللغة العربية لغير الناطقين بها وللتعليم الخاص بالعرب القاطنين في المهجر. والسلسلة تلك تتألف من ثلاثة أجزاء. وهذا هو الجزء الأول ويتألف من فصلين. يعتمد الفصل الأول على تعليم القراءة والكتابة وحسن الاستماع وذلك بفضل الشريط المسجل التابع لهذا الكتاب. يبدأ هذا الفصل بتدريس صوت الحرف، وموقعه في الكلمة بطريقة تسهل على الطالب دراسته. ولقد تمت ترجمة معظم هذا الفصل، لأن الهدف منه هو القراءة والكتابة بغض النظر عن المفردات والتراكيب اللغوية، فالمهمة الأساسية في هذه المرحلة، تكمن في التركيز على الحرف العربي بأشكاله المتعددة.
وبعد تمكن التلميذ من القراءة والكتابة في الفصل الأول وتغطية معظم رموز اللغة العربية من (شدّة ومدّة وألف مقصورة وأرقام وأعداد)، يكون الفصل الثاني الحجر الأساس للانطلاق إلى مرحلة الفهم والاستيعاب مع القراءة والكتابة بالشكل الصحيح في الجزء الثاني.
