هذه قراءة عامة في ديوان مخطوط لشاعر أندلسي مغمور، لا ذكر له ولا لشعره في المصادر المعرفة، ولولا ظهور نسخة وحيدة من ديوانه في السنين الأخيرة ما وقف له على عين ولا أثر. إنه البسطي آخر شعراء الأندلس.
ويمكن أن نجمل قيمة ديوان البسطي فيما يلي: أولاً: أنه مصدر وحيد في التعريف بصاحبه الذي نسبته كتب التراجم وأغفل ذكره أصحاب المعاجم، ومن حسن الحظ أن شعر البسطي شديد الارتباط بشخصيته، قوي الاتصال بحياته. ثانياً: أنه وثيقة تاريخية فريدة تكشف عن جوانب مجهولة من أواخر أيام المسلمين في الأندلس. ثالثاً: أنه وثيقة أدبية تامة ونادرة تصور مستوى بلاغة أهل الأندلس قبيل ضياع الفردوس المفقود.
وإذا ما عدنا لمنهاج هذه القراءة نجد أنها تهتم أولاً بتصنيف مضامين الديوان وتنسيق محتوياته وتوثيق معلوماته، كما وتحرص ثانياً على سرد الشواهد الكافية من شعر الشاعر لأنه مخطوط وغير معروف، هذا وقد اعتمد فيها الاختصار في الشرح والتعليق والاقتصار على ما لا بد منه في العرض والتحليل.
