من هنا، يسعى هذا الكتاب إلى التعريف بمبادئ الخياطة وذلك من خلال تسعة وحدات توزعت على الشكل التالي: الوحدة الأولى: "دراسة أدوات الخياطة"، الوحدة الثانية: "الخياطة اليدوية"، الوحدة الثالثة: "خياطة قطع ملابس بيرون رسم مخططات"، الوحدة الرابعة: "رسم الباترون (المخطط) الأساسي وذلك لتفصيل وخياطة مريول للعلوم المنزلية"، الوحدة الخامسة: "رسم الباترون (المخطط) الأساسي وذلك لتفصيل وخياطة مريول للعلوم المنزلية"، الوحدة السادسة: "قص وتفصيل مريول للعلوم المنزلية"، الوحدة السابعة: "جدول القياسات"، الوحدة الثامنة: "التطريز اليدوي"، الوحدة التاسعة: "تطبيقات عملية".
وعليها التعرف على الخياطة اليدوية بأنواعها الثابتة وغير الثابتة والتعرف على آلة الخياطة بأنواعها المختلفة والتعرف على أجزائها ووظيفة كل جزء والتعرف على كيفية العناية بآلة الخياطة وصيانتها.
