الإخوان "جريم" هما الشقيقان الألمانيان "فيلهيلم" و"جاكوب جريم" ولدا حوالي عام 1780، وفي شبابهما بدآ دراسة القانون، ولكن سرعان ما تحول اهتمامهما إلى دراسة فقه اللغة والأساطير الشعبية، واهتما-بشكل أساسي-بجمع التراث القصصي الشعبي الذي يتناقله الرواة شفاهه بدون تدوين. وتمسك الإخوان-كمبدأ لهما-يرفض التغيير أو التبديل بمادة الحكاية الشعبية ونشرها ودراستها كما هي، وقد أكسبهم هذا المبدأ مكانة هامة ومتميزة بين باحثي التراث الشعبي.
وفي عام 1812، أصدرا أول أعمالهما في مجلد صغير، ضمناه مجموعة من الحكايات الخرافية الشعبية. وقد صار ذلك الكتاب نواة لأعمال أخرى كثيرة أصدراها فيما بعد، وكانت أكبر وأشمل. وصدرت تلك المجموعة في طبعات، وترجمت إلى معظم اللغات الأخرى. من الأعمال الشهيرة التي يرجع الفضل في جمعها للأخوين "جريم": "ذات القبعة الحمراء"، "سندريلاً" "عقلة الصباع"...
وقصة "ولد لا يعرف الخوف" لا تعد من قصص الأخوين الشهيرة، وإنما تتميز بحملها لروح القصص الشعبية التي لم تمتد لها يد التبديل والتشويه تلك الروح التي يمتزج فيها التخويف بالفكاهة، والتي دائماً ما تجعل الإنسان بطل القضية ينتصر في النهاية مهما كان صغيراً أو ضعيفاً.
