مؤلف هذا الكتاب من أنجب واخلص واطهر وأقدر العناصر الشابة التي دفعت بها ثورة 23 يوليو وقيادة عبد الناصر إلى أهم مواقع المسؤولية وأوكلت إليها أخطر المهام.
فقد كان مستشاراً للزعيم الراحل للشؤون الأفريقية ورسوله الكفؤ الأمين إلى قادة ثورات التحرير في أفريقيا، وعضواً دائماً في وفد مصر إلى كل مؤتمر دولي حضره عبد الناصر، كما رأس وفد مصر أكثر من مسرة إلى مؤتمرات الوحدة الأفريقية، ثم تولى وزارة الإعلام مرتين الاولى عام 1968، والثانية عام 1970 حيث ظل بها إلى ان أدخل السجن في 15 مايو 1971، ليقضى بين جدرانه عشر سنوات هي مدة الحكم الذي أصدرته بحقه محكمة سياسية إستثنائية.
ويروي محمد فايق في هذا الكتاب الذي كتبه في السجن، حيث ما زال حتى لحظة صدور الكتاب، قصة ثورة 23 يوليو وعبد الناصر مع ثورة التحرر في كل ركن من أركان القارة العملاقة، وهي قصة يعلم كل المطلعين على أسرارها أهمية الدور الذي لعبه محمد فايق في كل فصل من فصولها، رغم حرصه طوال صفحات هذا الكتاب على حجب أهمية دوره الخاص وإبراز أهمية دور الثورة والقائد، كل هذا في نغمة صدق وبساطة وموضوعية يلمسها القارئ في كل سطر من سطور هذا الكتاب الهام الذي يؤرخ لصفحة من أروع صفحات ثورة 23 يوليو المجيدة.
