تعرض هذه الموسوعة وتشرح أعلام الفكر البشري بدءاً من القرن السادس ق.م وصولاً إلى يومنا الحاضر (أي من هراقليطس وصولاً إلى ميشال فوكو وجيل دولوز وجاك دريدا). وهي تضم أهم المذاهب والنظريات والحركات والايديولوجيات التي ظهرت وانتشرت في سياق التاريخ الفكري للانسانية. بالإضافة إلى ذلك فإن هذه الموسوعة تعالج أهم المفاهيم وما يسمى "بالمصطلحات الفنية" والتي تتعلق بحقلي العلوم الاجتماعية والإنسانية كما أنها تركز بشكل خاص على المفكرين الذين أطلق عليهم "قمم الفكر" فتشرح مذاهبهم وأنساقهم الفكرية بأسلوب مبسط.
إلى جانب ذلك فهي تتناول ولأول مرة في اللغة العربية أعلام الفكر العربي الحديث والمعاصر (أكثر من خمسين مفكر بدءاً من رفاعة الطهطاوي وصولاً إلى ناصيف نصار). إن هذه الموسوعة تجمع بين طريقة البحث المعمق والتبسيط. فيمكن للمتخصص أن يعتمدها كمرجع، في الوقت نفسه، يمكن للإنسان العادي أن يجد فيها فائدة المعرفة ومتعة الثقافة. وقد أخذ واضع هذه الموسوعة في الاعتبار البرامج الجديدة في حقلي "الإنسانيات والعلوم الاجتماعية" فيجد فيها الأستاذ والطالب مرجعاً يساعدهما في التحضير والدرس.
