"خليل حاوي وأنطون سعادة" كتاب يضمّ بحثاً متفرع إلى شقين؛ أولهما يبرز أثر زعيم الحزب السوري القومي الاجتماعي على فكر حاوي وقصائده، وثانيهما يروي قصة الشاعر في الحزب م 1934 إلى 1955، وعليه فالبحث ليس أكاديمياً بالمعنى النقدي، وليس روائياً بالمعنى القصصي. غرضه واضح وجلي، تبيان أثر سعادة العقائدي على حاوي، ليس إلا، وعليه فلا هو سيرة ذاتية لأي منها، ولا عرضاً جامعاً بآرائهما، وإنما هو بين بين، فيلقي الضوء على آخر مفكر نهضوي في دنيا العرب في النصف الأول من القرن العشرين، وعلى آخر شاعر تحول عن الزجل إلى الكلاسيكية، ثم تدرج إلى الرومانسية فالرمزية فالعدمية في النصف الثاني من ذاك القرن.
ويلتقي شقا الكتاب البحث عند مفاصل عدة، منها مثلاً تشابه المزاح عن الاثنين، والاعتداد بالنفس، والعناد الصلب، والانقلابية المفاجئة، وأحياناً كثيرة نجد أن ما يسري على الأول يسري على الثاني. والمؤلف أحب حاوي، ويعتبر هذا غنىً له، وسمى بحثه كذا جرياً على نهج إلياس أبو شبكة في تسميته أحد كتبه بـ"روابط الفكر والروح بين العرب والفرنجة" ليس إلا، لأن "أبو شبكة" في رأي المؤلف أكثر المحدثين تأثيراً على بنية قصيدة حاوي، مع الإقرار أن فكر أنطون سعادة طغى على حياة حاوي لحوالي نصف قرن.
