يركز هذا الكتاب على مهارتي القراءة والكتاب بوصفهما عمليتين تتضافر فيهما المهارات اللغوية والعقلية والإستقبالية والإنتاجية، ولذلك فإن القارىء لهذا الكتاب سيجد أن مفهوم القراءة من أجل الكتابة مفهوم محوري ورئيسي داخله.
وإذا كان هذا الكتاب الذي وضعه أعضاء هيئة التدريس في قسم اللغة العربية (كلية الآداب - جامعة البترا) يسير على ما رُسِم له من التكامل مع الكتب الأخرى بتركيزه على هاتين المهارتين إلا أنه ينطلق من رؤية بنيوية كلية للغة العربية؛ ومفاد هذه الرؤية إن الكفايات القرآنية والكفايات الكتابية إنما يمثلان تجسيداً كلياً لبنية لغوية واحدة، وهما يستغرقان عناصر الكفايات اللغوية والتواصلية والخطابية الأخرى. وبيان ذلك بالنسبة لواضعو هذا الكتاب أن تمام صحة القراءة والإستيعاب ومن ثم فرز المعلومات وتمييزها إنما يقوم على القدرة على تمييز رسم الحروف والكلمات العربية، وتبيّن معاني مفرداتها المعجمية والسياقية والإصطلاحية، وتمثل دلالات أبنيتها الصرفية، وفهم تراكيبها ووظائفها النحوية، ومعرفة أساليبها .. كلّ هذه الكفايات الفرعية تنتهي إلى كفاية القراءة السليمة ...
ما يميّز هذا الكتاب أن مؤلفوه انطلقوا من ضرورة أن يتخلى الكتاب عن مركزية المعلم؛ إذ يسند للمتعلم معظم المهام والوظائف التعلّمية، بالإعتماد على تمارين تيسر للمتعلم فرص استعمال استراتيجيات التعلّم المختلفة للتمكن من المهارة وصولاً إلى الكفاية المنشودة.
