في مجموعتها القصصية هذه، تدخل حياة أبو فاضل حياة الأطفال بقصص حميمة مرتبطة بواقع العيش وجماليات الأرض ومخلوقاتها، فكتبت عن النورس والندى والربيع والجنديات والصيحان وكل ما يمت إلى عالم الطبيعة وموجوداتها من فراشات وعصافير وأزاهير وزيزان وغيرها.
فالطفل في (صغار) يبدأ باكتشاف الفوارق بين حرية خياله ومطبات الواقع. فعندما تتخيل أليسار – (القصة 15) من المجموعة – أنها لو وضعت مجموعة من الحجارة التي تلملمها من هنا وهناك في علبة كبيرة من المحتمل أن تتحول هذه الحجارة "البخيلة" إلى أخرى "كريمة" تشع بألوان الألماس والياقوت، فهذا يعني أن الكاتبة قد عبرت عن عالم له اعتباراته وقيمه عند الأطفال أسمى وأجمل مما هي في عالم الكبار، أو أنها أرادت الكشف عن عبثية القيم المادية إذا ما قيست ببراءة الطفل الصغير. وكذلك في بقية قصص المجموعة التي فتحت من خلالها الكاتبة النافذة أمام أولئك الصغار لانطلاق مخيلتهم نحو آفاق أسمى وأرحب.
يضم الكتاب (35) قصة قصيرة نذكر من عناوينها: "ندى"، "هناء"، "إليسار"، "الربيع"، "النورس"، "يسوع"، "صيصان"، "جنديات وعمر" ... الخ.
"يا صغار، في أحد الأيام الدافئة جاء يحمل قطعاً من خشب رائحته طيبة. لنبني بيتاً من الخشب، قال، وأخذ الصغار يضعون قطعاً فوق قطع، وكان بيت سقفه من أغصان زيتون فلسطين وله باب واحد واسع دخلت منه الشمس فأضاءته. وفرحوا وسألوه: من علمك أن تبني هكذا بيتاً جميلاً؟ وأجاب: بنيناه معاً، فأنتم مثلي تعرفون، ألا أنكم نسيتم".
