يتناول الكتاب الرابع من سلسلة نشاطات سمسمة المسلية حكاية الجمع صورة وتطبيقاً ففي القسم الأول يقوم الطفل بمراجعة الأعداد التي تلّقنها وتدرب على كتابتها في الجزء الأول والثاني وذلك عبر لوحات من الصور الملونة التي يألفها ويحبها... وفي القسم الثاني، يبدأ عمليات الجمع بطريقة نظرية بسيطة إذ تعرض عليه مجموعتين من نفس الصورة ويقدم بعدها بإضافة المجموعة الأولى إلى المجموعة الثانية فيحصل على الجواب الصحيح. هذه الطريقة تمسك بيد الطفل وتساعده على صعود سلم الجمع درجة درجة حتى يصل إلى استيعاب عالم الجمع بمختلف جوانبه...
وفي القسم الثالث يدخل الطفل أجوبة الجمع ضمن خانات الآحاد والعشرات، ثم يتعرف على طريقة الجمع العمودية بعد أن يكون قد استوعب طريقة الجمع الأفقية، هنا يشعر بأن تملك القدرة على حلّ عمليات الجمع مهماً كانت صعبة ومعقدة في القسم الرابع، والأخير ينتقل الطفل إلى حل المسائل الحسابية عبر موضوعات مصورة. ولا يخفي ما لهذه المسائل من أهمية تحت الطفل العمل السريع والمنتظم وتدرب عقله وخياله على طريقة جمع عقلية سريعة، وقد ذيل هذا الكتاب بصفحتين من الصور الملوثة يقوم الطفل بنزعها وإلصاقها في مكانها المناسبة.
