إيفان تشيرنيخ (من مواليد 1927) خريج كلية الطيران الحربية لطياري القاذفات البعيدة المدى. عمل طياراً حتى عام 1961. لكن بعد أن أنهى دراسته في معهد غوركي للآداب، أصبح صحفياً عسكرياً، وكاتباً. ألف روايات عديدة: "الحركة الانشوطية الميتة"، "ذاهب للمطاردة"، "التيفون"، "الارتفاعات المغلقة" وقصص "علو الغموض" ومسرحيتي "الحاجز الصوتي"، وغداً سيكون قد فات الأوان". ورواية "مذكرات طيار" هذه التي هي بين يدي القارئ وهي مكرسة لطياري القاذفات البعيدة المدى، الذين سحقوا القوات الفاشية، على مشارف الاتحاد السوفييتي الجنوبية، أثناء الحرب الوطنية العظمى (1941-1945)، لقد قصفوا المواقع الاستراتيجية الهامة للتهلويين، وتجمعاتهم الآلية والبشرية، ومناطق إمداداتهم وعبورهم، ومطاراتهم ومحطات سككهم الحديدية، وموانئهم البحرية وطرق مواصلاتهم. ويركز المؤلف الضوء على مصير أبطال روايته الرئيسيين الثلاثة وهم: آمر الفوج فيودور مينشينوف وقائد طقم الطائرة الكسندر تومانوف، ورفيقهما في السلاح فيكتور بيتر وفسكي. ففي الحروب الطاحنة مع العدو، والنزاعات الحادة والأزمات، تتجلى صور الإرادة القوية الفائقة للناس، فتنضج وتكتمل مهارتهم الحربية والقيادية وتتوضد صداقتهم الكفاحية.
