يضم الكتاب الذي بين يدينا من سلسلة "النصوص التقريظية" ترجمة للغة العربية لسبعة تقاريظ تناول فيها "يوحنا الذهبي" شخصية بولس الرسول وحياته ورسائله. وهذه جميعها هي عبارة عن خطب كان يوحنا الذهبي قد ألقاها في أنطاكية ما بين سنة 378 وسنة 397، أي من مرحلة يوحنا الكهنوتية، أي قبل انتقاله أسقفاً إلى القسطنطينية. وقد ظهرت هذه المجموعة منقولة إلى اللاتينية سنة 1499 بعنوان De Laudibus Pauli، أي كتاب تضمّن أيضاً تفسيراً لرسائل القديس بولس بقلم القديس أوغسطينس.
