التكرار ظاهرة أسلوبية ونسق تعبيري مهم في الشعر العربي، اعتمدت عليه القصيدة في نصها بشكل ملحوظ جذب إنتباه القراء والنقاد، فكثرت تلك الدراسات التي تحدثت عن التكرار: معناه، أشكاله، وظائفه، ودارت، في أغلبها، حول دور التكرار في تأكيد اللفظ أو المعنى المكرر، وما يتصل بذلك التأكيد من أغراض أخرى كالإشارة إلى أهمية المكرر وشرفه وفضيلته أو التلذذ بذكره، وكذا التحرير والتنبيه والإلحاح في الدعاء وغير ذلك من الأغراض التي أشار إليها الدارسون، سواء من القدماء او المعاصرين، الذين كانت نظرتهم جزئية في التعامل مع التكرار حيث درسوه على مستوى الجملة أو بأكثر تقدير على مستوى العبارة أو النص الواحد وليس على مستوى شعر الشاعر أو على مستوى جملة من النصوص كما يتعامل النقد الحديث مع كل ظواهر النصوص.
من هنا، كان الداعي الأساسي لهذه الدراسة التي تطمح إلى وضع لبنة في مجال الدراسات النقدية والجمالية للنصوص الأدبية، وخاصة المرتبطة بموضوع التكرار، ويتمثل طموحها في: - دراسة التكرار ليس على مستوى النص الواحد من نصوص الشاعر، وإنما دراسة بينية ترصد المتكررات عبر جميع نصوص الشاعر الموجودة في ديوانه.
الكشف عن الخصائص الجمالية والفنية للتكرار في هذه النصوص، وخاصة تلك الخصائص التي لم يتوقف أمامها الدارسون فيما سبق من دراسات.
