وهي تعنى بالتراث تقرؤه بعيون حية، وتفكر فيه بعقول ذكية، فتحييه في صدور الأجيال، وتتيح لها الامتياح من ينابيعه واستلهام كنوزه. كما تعنى بالجديد تستكشف آفاقه وتجلو غوامضه وتؤثر بنيانه وتقيم دعائمه، في لغة مجنحة بأجنحة الصدق العلمي والولاء، لا بأجنحة الميول والأهواء لتشكل موسوعة في مجالاتها يجد فيها القارئ العام من الثقافة ما يلذه ويمتعه، ويجد فيها المتخصص العمل المرجعي الذي ينشده.
إن هذا الدرس الأدبي لهذا الكتاب - في حقيقته - تعامل مع النص اللغوي، عندما يدخل دائرة الأدبية للكشف عن طاقته الجمالية، وهو ما يحتاج إلى أدوات بعينها، تنبع من النص ذاته لتكون لها صلاحية التعامل معه.
ولا بد أن يكون بيننا حد أدنى من الاتفاق على إمكانية تأويل الفكرة الواحدة في صياغات متعددة. وهذا التعدد يقود إلى التمايز، الذي يجعل شاعراً كامرئ القيس متفرداً بين غيره من الشعراء.
وقد اقتربت دراسات كثيرة من هذا الشاعر بمناهج مختلفة، ولكن مع استفاضة نقد الحداثة بأدواته الجديدة أو المجددة أمكن قراءته مرة ثانية للكشف عن نظامه اللغوي، واتساقه المضموني خلال منهج يزاوج بين التحليل والتركيب والرصد الكمي والمتابعة الكيفية.
