إن كتابة الرسائل والأبحاث علم متوارث عن الأجداد، وقد تطور حديثاً ووضعت له قواعد وتقنيات لا بد منها لإخراج بحث ناضج أو رسالة جيدة تحقق المرام فيها.
ومما دفع الكاتب إلى إعداد هذا الكتاب مساعدة الباحثين والطلاب الذين يتخرجون ومعلوماتهم عن كيفية صياغة البحث ووسائل كتابة قليلة، وخبراتهم البحثية ضئيلة بل نادرة.
فإسهاماً منه في تقديم العون للباحث في كتابة بحثه أو رسالته أو مقالته في المرحلة الجامعية الأولى والماجستير والدكتوراه، وضع بين يديه هذه الدراسة التي تزودهُ بفكرة واضحة عن بحثه، وتبيّن له الطرق التي اتبعت في الدراسات المتشابهة، فيستعين من خبرات غيره، ويدرك الحدود والمفاهيم التي استعان بها ليشق طريقه في ميادين التأليف التي تحتاج إلى تخطيط وتحديد وترتيب المصادر والمراجع وكيفية الرجوع إليها.
ويتألف هذا الكتاب من اثني عشر فصلاً، تحدث الكاتب في الفصل الأول عن البحث وتعريفه وأنواع وحججه ووسائله ومصادره، وبينّ في الفصل الثاني الصعوبات التي تكتنف البحث وطرقه وخطواته، وشرح في الفصل الثالث مناهجه، أما في الفصل الرابع فقد تناول موضوع الجامعة والباحث، وأشار في الفصل الخامس إلى صفات الباحث وأسلوبه، وركّز في الفصل السادس على كيفية إستخدام المكتبة وقواعدها وعرّف في الفصل السابع كتابة البحث وفسر في الفصل الثامن كيفية إستعمال الهوامش وعلامات الوقف والترقيم ودرس في الفصل التاسع الفهارس بشكل عام، أما في الفصل العاشر فقد عرض تبويب الرسالة الجامعية، وخصص الفصل الحادي عشر لتعريف رسالة الماجستير والدكتوراه وختم في الفصل الثاني عشر بطباعة الرسالة ونشرها وكانت خاتمة الكتاب هذا ملحق عن الأرقام والمختصرات التي تستخدم في البحث او الرسالة لتيسّر للباحث كل ما يلزمه في بحثه.
