غدت المدرسة، في عصرنا الحاضر، مؤسسة تربوية لا بد منها، ولا سبيل إلى تجاهل دورها أو الاستغناء عنه، فالمدرسة هي الوسيلة الأساس لاكتساب المعلومات، وللحصول على الشهادات العلمية.
ويحرص الأهل، عموماً، على وضع أبنائهم في أفضل المدارس، متحملين، أحياناً، عبئاً مادياً باهظاً، وكلهم يقين أن المال الذي يصرفونه على تعليم أبنائهم لن يذهب سدىً بل سيعود على هؤلاء بجزيل النفع وعظيم الفائدة، وكلهم يقين، أيضاً أن المدرسة التي تهتم بتربية أبنائهم تضم اختصاصيين في التربية، وأن المناهج التربوية المعتمدة تساعد التلميذ على اكتساب ما يكفي من المعلومات ليصبح شخصاً ناجحاً في المجتمع.
يقين الأهل هذا، يقابله، في معظم الأحيان، تشكيك مقلق، يتجرأ بعض تلامذتنا على البوح به، علناً أو همساً، فهم يتساءلون، بحسرة ممزوجة بشعور الغبن، عن جدوى حفظ كم كبير من المعلومات التي لن يبقى لها أي أثر بعد أيام قليلة، يتساءلون عن جدوى حفظ قواعد لغوية، وأشعار أدبية، ومفردات ونظريات وتواريخ وأسماء... لن تفيدهم في شيء سواءً في حياتهم الحاضرة أو المستقبلية! كم يتمنى هؤلاء التلاميذ أن يأتي "المخلص المنتظر" الذي سيلغي من المدرسة كل ما هو ممل وعديم الفائدة، فلا يبقى فيها إلا ما هو عظيم الفائدة، وبالفعل نفسه، شيق ولذيذ!
إزاء هذا التناقض الواضح بين رأي معظم التلاميذ من جهة، ورأي معظم الأهل والمعلمين من جهة ثانية، لا بد من نظرة موضوعية تحكم على واقع التربية في مدارسنا، وجدوى بعض الأساليب فيها.
وعليه، فالهدف الأساس من هذا الكتيب هو إلقاء الضوء على بعض الوسائل التربوية القديمة التي لم تعد تفيد الطالب في شيء، واقتراح أخرى تفي أكثر بالغرض التربوي.
