"الدرر في اختصار المغازي والسير" كتاب اختصر فيه المؤلف ذكر مبعث النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وابتداء نبوته وأول أمره في رسالته ومغازيته وسيرته فيها. ليكون بذلك قد خصص هذا الكتاب لسائر خبر في مبعثه وأوقاته صلى الله عليه وسلم. مختصراً ذلك من كتاب موسى بن عقبة، وكتاب ابن اسحق رواية ابن هشام وغيره، ذاكراً من كتابه هذا خبراً ليس منهما. والنسق كله على ما رسمه ابن اسحق، فذكر مغازيه صلى الله عليه وسلم وسيره على التقريب والاختصار على العيون من ذلك دون الحشو والتخطيط.
