هذه السيرة هى الكتاب الأصلي الذي جمع روايته وكتبها "أبن اسحاق" وإن كان غير كامل يعتبريه بعض النقص. وقد إبتعدت طويلا عن عيون قراء العربية ، واعتمد الباحثون في دراساتهم ومؤلفاتهم على كتاب ابن هشام الذي نقح كتاب "أبن اسحاق" ، فحذف بعض الاجزاء وخاصة الأشعار ، والتى نجدها في هذا الكتاب من جديد. وقد كان يذكر عند كل خبر رواته وإن كان أحيانا يعمد إلى الراوى الأول
