تعد موسوعة "دائر المعارف الحسينية" الموسوعة الأكبر والأعمق من سائر الموسوعات ودوائر المصارف لحد الآن، ولذلك فهي أول موسوعة وضعت في التاريخ من حيث الكمّ والكيف، ولذلك وضعها الإعلام من الشرق والغرب بأوصاف كادت أن تكون فردية، ومن تلك قولهم "موسوعة لم يسبق لها مثيل" "البادرة النادرة الشريفة"، سبق حقيقي في عالم التأليف والبحث"... وهذه الكلمات صورت من ذوي العلم وأرباب الفكر بمختلف طبقاتهم ممن لهم الشأن الكبير اليد الطولي في جوانب متعددة للمعرفة ومن أصول مذهبية وأعراق مختلفة، ولأهمية الموسوعة هذه كانت أصداءها كبيرة وواسعة، فقد نشرت عنها الصحف المختلفة في أرجاء العالم، كما وبثت الإذاعات المسموعة والمحطات المرئية عنها، وبالرجوع إلى مضمون هذه الموسوعة نجد أن مؤلفها وهو الشيخ محمد صادق بن محمد حسن الكرباسي الاشتري النخفي قد كسر من خلالها طوق الزمان والمكان واللغة والانتماء في نقل المعلومات ذات الصلة بالإمام الحسين عليه السلام كشخص وسيرة وفكر ومنهاج، وكذلك بالمعلومات المتعلقة بالدائرة المحيطة بالإمام من شخصيات وأماكن وتواريخ. ولأهمية هذا العمل الموسوعي اعتني المؤلف "علاء الزيدي" بوضع تعريفه الذي بين يدينا والذي يحتوي على توضيح وشرح مختصر جداً لمجلدات الموسوعة الخمسة وعلى مقدمة عامة تتعرض للتعريف بالمؤلف وبموسوعته وبنيتها الفكرية.
