"لقد ترك أجدادنا الساعة الرملية، ونحن تركنا الساعات السويسرية، وذهبنا جميعاً إلى داخلنا، وفي لحظة الضعف البشري، أمام الموت، أصبحنا نقيس الوقت بالكابوس".
إنني أحدق الآن بهذه الخطوط والندوب، تحت الشطب في هذه الأوراق أمامي، فأرى أنني لم أفعل شيئاً أبداً سوى البحث، في قراءة ضالّة، عن اليرقة التي لا بد من أن شيئاً ما قد أعاقها، في شرنقة الحرير، فلم تفلح، أبداً في أن تغدو فراشة في الربيع.
"لو أنني أردت أن أغني الحب... سيتحول هذا الحب في غنائي إلى ألم... أما إذا أردت، بعد ذلك، ألا أغنّي سوى الألم، فإن هذا الألم سيتحول، بالنسبة لي إلى... حب" فرانز شوبرت".
الفراشة، سواء مجازاً أو إستعمالاً للمجاز، هي علامة على الحب، وأنا، منذ أن أريت التناقض، في فكرته وفي ممارسته في عالمنا إنشغالاً منا بإنقاذ البشرية بالحروب وإنعدام العدالة... قلت لنفسي "الحب معجزة" وليس صحيحاً أن الفراشة تقترب من الضوء لتحترق، بل لكي تتوحد... بالنور...
الحب والنوم، يا للسعادة!... في الحب نستطيع الوثوق بحدوث الأشياء، وفي النوم سعادة لأننا نخلع أحذيتنا وراء باب.. الدنيا... في النهارات البعيدة والتواريخ القصيّة حربٌ، وفي لحظة في الليل ثمّة من يقول، كأنّما يكتب لكَ وحدَكْ: لأنْ المحبِّة قويٌةٌ كالموت".
