يعتبر كتاب "السير والسلوك إلى ملك الملوك" للشيخ قاسم بن صلاح الدين الحنبلي من الكتب الهامة والمرشدة في التأليف الصوفي، فقد بدأ المؤلف كتابه بتبيين أهمية الصوفية ودورهم الأخلاقي في تربية الإنسان المسلم، حتى يكون مسلماً حقيقياً، ثم انتقل إلى المقدمة وفيها شرح العديد من المصطلحات الصوفية، كالتصوف، والشريعة، والطريقة، والحقيقة، والطب الروحاني وغيرها، ثم قسم الكتاب إلى عشرة أبواب تحدث فيها عما يلي: في ذم الدنيا ولذاتها، في الحث على سلوك هذه الطريق وبيان فضلها، في بيان الحجب التي بين العبد وربه، في بيان النفس الأمارة، في بيان النفس اللواحة، في بيان النفس الملهمة، في بيان النفس المطمئنة، في بيان النفس الراضية، في بيان النفس المرضية، في بيان النفس الكاملة، في بيان صفات المرشد وبيان أوضاعه وأحواله. هذا ولأهمية الكتاب اعتنى "ابراهيم شمس الدين" بتحقيق مادته، وذلك حتى يسهل على القارئ الوقوف على مضمون النص، وبالرجوع لعمل المحقق نجد أنه يتجلى بـ"أولاً: وضع ترجمة وافية للمؤلف. ثانياً: دون مقدمة في علم التصوف أخذها من "تاريخ ابن خلدون". ثالثاً: نقى النص من الأخطاء الواردة فيه. رابعاً: شرح في حواشي الكتاب ما في متنه من غريب اللغة، أو صعب المتناول منها، وذلك استناداً إلى المعاجم اللغوية المشهورة. خامساً: وضع في حواشي الكتاب تعريفاً وافياً بالأعلام الواردة في المتن، وما أهمله من ذلك إما معروف مشهور ولم يجده ضرورة لنافل القول فيه. سادساً: خرج جميع الأحاديث النبوية والآثار تخريجاً وافياً: وضبط نص الحديث استناداً إلى كتب الحديث المفيدة. سابعاً: خرج جميع الأحاديث النبوية والآثار تخريجاً وافياً، وضبط نص الحديث استناداً إلى كتب الحديث المعتبرة.
