عُني المسلمون بالقرآن الكريم عناية فائقة، واهتموا بعلومه اهتماماً منقطع النظير، وكان للقراءات القرآنية النصيب الأكبر من هذه العناية، فقد أُحيطَ نصُّ القرآن الكريم وقراءاته بسياج لا نظير له من الرعاية والهتمام إذ هي الله سبحانه وتعالى أئمة ثقات تجردوا لحفظ نصه، وضبط قراءاته بصورة لا يرقى إليها أدنى ريب.
وتناقلوا القراءات حرفاً حرفاً بأمانةٍ ودقةٍ متناهيةٍ مع ضبط دقيقٍ للحركات والسكنات دونما إسقاط أو حذف، ودون أن يُصيبها تبديل أو شيء من التغيير.
إن هذه الرعاية البالغة التي اكتنف نص القرآن وقراءاته قد جعلته من غير شك أصل المصادر وأهمها في دراسة اللغة العربية، نحوها، وصرفها، وأصواتها؛ لأن فيه أوثق الشواهد وأغناها، فضلاً عن كونه سجلاً دقيقاً يعرفنا تاريخ اللغة العربية، ويظهر لنا جلياً الواقع اللغوي الذي كان سائداً عند العرب قبل الإسلام، ووقت نزول القرآن الكريم.
وقد قسم المؤلف الدراسة على تمهيد وثلاثة فصول وخاتمة، ضمّ إليها ملحقاً خاصاً بحروف قراءته مرتباً على حسب ورودها في القرآن الكريم. درس في التمهيد: حياته وثقافته ومكانته في القراءة. ودرس الفصل الأول الظواهر النحوية التي تشكلت منها قراءة إبراهيم بن أبي عبلة. ودرس الفصل الثاني المستوى الصرفي في قراءة إبراهيم بن أبي عبلة. ودرس الفصل الثالث المستوى الصوتي في قراءة إبراهيم بن أبي عبلة.
