المجالس والمسايرات: كتاب سجّل فيه النعمان ما سمعه من الخليفة المعز في مواضيع شتى، من تاريخ وعقيدة واحتجاج على الخصوم، وبحوث لغوية.
ومما يزيد في الأهمية الوثائقية لهذا الكتاب أن النعمان كان حريصاً على تسجيل مادته إثر كل مجلس مباشرة، ويتحرى في نقل ما ينقله حتى يأتي بلفظ المعز كما ورد على لسانه مع ما في هذا العمل من صعوبة وجهد، وكانت مراجعة الخليفة لمحتواه تزيد النعمان وثوقاً من عمله، فيقول: (إن ما أثبته في هذا الكتاب كأنه هو لفظه وإن لم يكن هو بحقيقته، لما أجازه على المعنى وسقط عنه تهمة التحريف والإحالة، وإن سقطت منه فضيلة الفصاحة والجزالة، ومعجز الألفاظ في المقالة، ولكنه صار بذلك من أصدق الحديث وأصح النقل).
في هذا الكتاب وضع النعمان منهجاً له، فحدد مادته ومحتواه ومرتبته من الوثوق بإعتباره تسجيله الحذر لما دار في مجالس الخليفة المباشر أولاً، ثم مراجعة المعز لهذه المواضيع التي اهتم النعمان بتسجيلها كاملة حتى أن الكتاب يحتوي على أحداث صارت وقتها، فكتبها القاضي النعمان بتواريخها، ففيه معلومات عن فتنة أبي يزيد التي دامت مدة القائم والمنصور، وعن خصومات المعز مع الدولة الأموية، والثوارات المتعددة التي قامت بإفريقية، وفيه عرض لما أحدثه كل من صاحبي سجلماسة وفاس من فتن، وكذلك للمعارك التي وقعت بين الروم والمعز.
