يعد محمد خانجيتش - أو الخانجي كما اختار لنفسه أن يكون فترة وجوده للدراسة في الأزهر خلال (1926 - 1930م) - من أهم علماء البوسنة في القرن العشرين، الذين جمعوا بين العلم الغزير والإنتاج المتنوّع والأفق الواسع المنفتح على العصر.
وإذا كان العالم العربي قد عرف الخانجي من خلال كتابه المعروف الذي ألّفه وأصدره في القاهرة "الجوهر الأسنى في تراجم علماء وشعراء البوسنة"، الذي صدر في أربع طبعات خلال (1930 - 2010م)؛ فإن هذه المختارات تعرّفنا بشكل مختلف على خانجيتش البوسنوي المنشغل بواقع المسلمين ومصيرهم في بلاده.
هذه الأعمال المختارة لخانجيتش تمثل صورة صادقة عما كان يشغل نخبة المسلمين في البوسنة ويوغسلافيا بشكل عام في فترة انتقالية صعبة، حيث تناولت أصالة المسلمين هناك أمام حملات التشكيك بهم وبتاريخهم، وانتقدت بعض البدع التي لحقت بهم هناك، وصولاً إلى السؤال الكبيرالذي عنون به خانجيتش أحد مقالاته: هل يمكن للمسلم أن يعيش حياة الأوربيين ويبقى مسلماً صالحاً؟
