باقة ورد يحملها الأصدقاء "لجبرا إبراهيم جبرا بمناسبة اقترابه من الخامسة والسبعين، كانت الرغبة أن يتحلق هؤلاء الأصدقاء حوله بهذه المناسبة، ليقولوا له الكلمات الدافئة الصادقة يكنونها له، لكن طبيعة الأوضاع العربية، في ذلك الوقت، جعلت احتفالاً من هذا النوع صعباً، إن لم يكن مستحيلاً، ولذلك تمت الاستعاضة عن الاحتفال بالكتابة بعضها من وراء الأسلاك الشائكة، وبعضها الآخر من المنافي البعيدة، القريبة، تأكيداً لصداقة الفن، واعترافاً بالدور الريادي الذي يمثله هذا الفارس، وأصدقاء جبرا الذين تداعوا إلى تكوينه بإصدار هذا الكتاب، تركزت معظم مساهماتهم حول "جبرا الروائي" بالدرجة الأولى، سواءً بالكتابة عن مجمل رواياته، أو بتناول واحدة منها بالتحديد، الأمر الذي غيّب جوانب معينة في شخصية جبرا المبدع والمتعدد، ولتدارك بعض من هذه الجوانب، اقتصرت مساهمة الروائي عبد الرحمن في هذا الكتاب على إبراز جانبين من إبداعات جبرا، رأى ضرورة لفت النظر إليها وهما: دور جبرا في ثورة الشعر الحديث، ومساهمته الكبيرة وإلهامه في الفن التشكيلي، خاصة وان هذين الجانبين لم ينالا عموماً، ما يستحقانه من دراسة واهتمام.
