مؤلف الكتاب هو أحد مناضلي الحركة القومية الاجتماعية منذ العام 1954. وقد آمن بقضيته منذ أن رفع يمينه لأداء قسم العضوية في الحرب. ولم تكن مسيرته الحزبية كلها أفراح وانتصارات بل تخللها في مراحل عديدة قلق وألم وبلبلة وخوف، رافقها تضحيات كبيرة قدمها رفاقه لم تصب كلها في خدمة أهداف الحركة القومية الاجتماعية ومصلحة الأمة.
وهو في هذا الكتاب يسترجع وقائع مسيرته، ولأن تجربته الحزبية كما يرى تتخطى في دروسها وعبرها وجود الشخص الذي عايشها فهو يدونها بكل صدق وموضوعية آملاً أن يستفيد من دروسها الآخرون. يعرض المؤلف للنشأة والدراسة ثم الانتماء إلى الحزب السوري القومي الاجتماعي، إضافة إلى عملية التهيئة لانقلاب أواخر عام 1961.
