Book Description
this dictionary begins with an introduction that includes the definition of language and the transcription system used throughout the dictionary. It also provides a categorized list of 8327 verbs based on the established verb patterns. Some statistics are also offered on the occurrences of these patterns which would serve as a rich ground for further research. Main entries are arranged alphabetically according to their roots. Sub-entries are subsumed under the main entries from which they were derived. They are indented to the next column after main entries. Sub-entries are then arranged according to the verb pattern roman numerals. some sub-entries related to main entries but including different forms with different voweling are provided and in most cases they have different meanings. The derived forms consist of the main entry put into different morphological structures labeled by 14 pattern numbers used by western orientalists. All roots of all entries are derived and put in third person singular, perfect (past), masculine form. Due to space limitation no more than four meanings were listed for any verb. These meanings are believed to be the most common in MSA.
