لما كانت الغاية من العرفان الإسلامي هي التعرف إلى الله تعالى في ضوء هداية الأنبياء والكتب السماوية، أو إرشاد الأولياء ومعارفهم الحكمية، وبذلك يصل المؤمن إلى معرفة خالقه والإيمان به. كان جلال الدين الرومي واحد من أهم المتألقين في سماء الأدب العرفاني في اللغة الفارسية، فقد استضاء شعره بأنوار المعارف القرآنية والأحاديث النبوية الشريفة.
من هنا جاءت هذه الدراسة لتلقي الضوء على العرفان الصوفي عند جلال الدين الرومي (604- 672هـ) باعتبار أن أشعاره العرفانية المفعمة بالوجدانيات قد تجلت في كتابه التالد: (المثنوي)، الذي لقب –وبحسب المؤلفة- عند العرفاء الصوفية الوجودية والإشراقية بالقرآن المعنوي، وهذا الكتاب نعني (المثنوي) هو ما ترتكز عليه المؤلف في دراستها هذه بالإضافة إلى تأثير المتنبي في شعر الرومي، وإظهار اقتباساته من شعر المتنبي ذي الصلة بالحكمة والأمثال، في محاولة إلى معرفة الجديد حول استعارات الشعراء، ومحاورات الأدباء، ومشايهات الحكماء.
وبالإستناد إلى ما تقدم قسمت هذه الدراسة إلى ثلاثة أبواب تنطوي تحتها فصول ومباحث تتناول سيرة ومسيرة جلال الدين الرومي العرفانية وأغراضه الشعرية وتنقلاته وطلبه للعلم وأساتذته وتلاميذه ولقاءاته مع علماء عصره مثل شمس الدين التبريزي وأثره فيه وتصوفه وأثر البيئة في تكوين شخصيته، ثم يتناول الكتاب أيضاً مدرسة جلال الدين الرومي والطريقة المولوية وتطورها حتى القرن العشرين، إضافة إلى آراء جلال الدين الرومي الصوفية ومبادئه الإنسانية، وحكمته بالمقارنة مع المتنبي حيث خصص مبحثاً للأشعار الحكيمة عند المتنبي وعند الرومي وأثر المتنبي في الأدب الفارسي، يرافق ذلك نماذج من أشعار الرومي وأشعار المتنبي: مبوبة بحسب موضوعاتها.
