من الأمور التي تسبق أي مشروع سواء أكان خاصاً أو عاماً هو دراسة جدوى هذا المشروع. بمعنى هل المشروع التي ترغب هذه المنشأة أو تلك المؤسسة القيام به، هل يستطيع تحقيق النتائج المرجوة مادياً من وراء تنفيذه، أي يحقق تنفيذ فكرة القيام بهذا المشروع أهداف القائمين على التنفيذ والمرتبطين بالمشروع أو كل من له علاقة به.
ومن هنا فإن دراسة الجدوى تعني بالدرجة الأولى القيام بسلسلة من الدراسات المتكاملة المعتمدة على عدة اختبارات وتقديرات للحكم على مدى صلاحية المشروع في ظل التوقعات المتعلقة بالتكاليف والمنافع المباشرة وغير المباشرة.
لقد اهتم هذا الكتاب بدراسة الجدوى الاقتصادية والأهداف المنشودة من هذا المشروع، ومكونات دراسات جدوى المشروع كالجدوى التسويقية الفنية والمالية والاقتصادية، ثم كيفية اختيار المشروع المناسب المقترن بمصادر أفكاره وتحديده وإعداده ودورته، وكيفية عمل دراسات الجدوى.
كما درس هذا الكتاب جوانب تقييم المشروع من الناحية المالية وذلك باستخدام مايكروسفت "إكسل" لمعرفة القيمة الحالية للمشروع وفترة الاسترداد ومعدل العائد الداخلي له. ثم ناقش المكاتب الاستشارية من حيث الالتزامات الاستشارية والمصادقة على الأعمال والمواصفات الجيدة للمكاتب الاستشارية وتصميم النظم المحاسبية وإعداد اللوائح الداخلية.
كذلك اهتم هذا الكتاب بدراسة الجدوى المالية والاقتصادية للمشروع من منظور الاقتصاد القومي، وتخطيط الاستثمارات، والجدوى الاقتصادية للبحث العلمي، ونظام البناء والتشغيل. كما قدم هذا الكتاب أمثلة لبعض المصانع كنموذج يحتذى به لمن أرادوا القيان بمشروع ما، وختم بإدراج مجموعة من المصطلحات المرتبطة بدراسة الجدوى.
