تحت عنوان (البارزاني مصطفى: قائد من هذا العصر) يقدم الأستاذ حبيب تومي كتاباً موسوعياً من مسيرة مصطفى البارزاني، يجمع بين صفحاته أهم محطات ومفاصل سيرة هذا الزعيم الخالد بدءاً من طفولته مروراً بعقيدته وأشكال كفاحه ومواقفه المشرفة عن قضية الكور وحقوقهم على مدى ما يزيد عن خمسين سنة من النضال الدؤؤب بهدف الحرية والإستقلال.
وعبر فصول الكتاب السبعة عشر يغطي المؤلف تاريخ قائدٍ وتاريخ شعب، وقضية ما تزال فصولها السياسية والتاريخية لم تكتمل بعد. لقد أطلع مؤلف هذا الكتاب على الثورة الكوردية من مختلف الجوانب والزوايا، فقد كان يعيش أحداثها اليومية من أوائل عام 1963 إلى أوائل عام 1968م، وقابل البارزاني الذي كان يقود هذه الثورة بصبر وإرادة، وعايش الشعب الذي كان يغذي الثورة بالمال والرجال. من هنا انبثقت لديه فكرة تقديم هذا الكتاب كدراسة تتناول شتى جوانب هذه الثورة عبر الزمان والمكان، وأهم ما فيها الحديث عن ملا مصطفى البارزاني ودوره التاريخي والإنساني في اللحظة التاريخية التي كونت هذا القائد.
وعليه، تبدأ فصول الكتاب بتسليط الضوء على مختلف مراحل حياة البارزاني، ثم تنتقل إلى جذور العائلة وتحديداً حياة الشيخ عبد السلام البارزاني (1914 - 1976 م) الذي تسلم الإمارة البارزانية وهو شاب يافع لا يتجاوز عمره 18 سنة. في الفصول اللاحقة للكتاب يبدأ المؤلف بعرض نضال ملا مصطفى البارزاني وبداية نشوء ظاهرة الثورة القومية، فيتحول الحديث عن جمهورية (مهاباد) ليصب في مرحلة جديدة هي عودة البارزاني من الإتحاد السوفييتي إلى الوطن في أعقاب ثورة 14 تموز 1958م. يتبع ذلك ذلك حديث عن مرحلة مهمة في تاريخ الكرد هي ثورة آذار (1961م) والإنقلابات العسكرية وتبدل حكومات ومجيء أخرى من الحكم البعثي الأول إلى الحكم البعثي الثاني، وموضوع الحكم الذاتي للأكراد، ويختتم الكتاب باتفاقية الجزائر عام 1975م وتداعياتها على مصير الثورة الكردية.
