يروي هذا الكتاب سيرة حياة مواطن عراقي ولد في عام 1932 في مدينة النجف باسم "حسين أحمد الرضي" وخلال حياته القصيرة أصبح نموذجاً للشيوعي الجيد وابناً وفياً للشعب العراقي وحركته الوطنية وواحداً من قادته البارزين. وعرفته الحركة الشيوعية العالمية باسم "سلام عادل". لهذا كان لحياة "حسين" مميزاتها الخاصة بها، فهو الجنين الذي نمى وترعرع في رحم الحركة الوطنية وحزبها الشيوعي والتي أنجبت منه شهيدها "سلام عادل". هذا وأنه وفي خلال استعراض سيرة سلام عادل يتم استعراض جزء هام من تأريخ الحركة الوطنية وفصيلها الحزب الشيوعي العراقي، وقد روعي في سرد هذه السيرة الالتزام بالنهج الموضوعي والأمانة التاريخية.
