يندرج هذا الكتاب في إطار كتابة الذات، مثله مثل السيرة الذاتية والمذكرات واليوميات. فهو يتضمن جزئيات من سيرة المؤلفة، وهو ما شهدناه في مؤلفات عديدة من أدبنا العربي، مثل عودة الروح لتوفيق الحكيم، إبراهيم الكاتب للمازني، سارة للعقاد. فالقارىء هنا نقصد في "أوراق خريفية .. قصص وخواطر" لا يستطيع أن يتأكد من جزئية التطابق، بين نوعه، هل هو سيرة ذاتية للدكتورة نورا الشرابي / المؤلفة أم يدور في فلك الفن الروائي.
وبقراءة متأنية للنص نكتشف عن نوع من التماهي بين المؤلفة والراوي، وذلك من خلال تعدد الضمائر السردية، وتعدد الرؤى وأساليب السرد والآليات الفنية مثل الخيال والوصف وغيرها. تقول المؤلفة " لم تتدافع أوراقي الخريفية هاربة من قلمي، بل اتجهت كل ورقة باتجاه أخواتها، في تشكيلات تحمل معاني الحياة والوجود والموت، تأخذ مكانها بين الأكوام، وهي تستعد لأن تحمل حيث تأخذها الرياح ...". وفي نص آخر بعنوان (سيعود) تتزاحم ثيمة الفقد وتتبلور أكثر بقول المؤلفة "أراك في كل طفل جميل، أسمعك مع تغريد الطيور، ألمسك وأنا أشم عطر ثيابك الذي لم يفارقها منذ أن رحلت ..."، وفي آخر تقول: "ما أجمل الأحلام من عالم تلتقي فيه الأحبة دون موعد وإن باعدت بينهم الفيافي والقفار، أو الموت وقدر السماء، فترتوي الأرواح وتسعد القلوب" هي كتابة لا تكشف عن هويتها، تعتمد على نصوص منفتحة دون تحديد صارم لأجناسها، ما يعني تأثر المؤلفة بنظريات ما بعد الحداثة، ما يشكل إضافة مهمة في مسيرتها الإبداعية.
